An Oakland man was arrested in Sausalito for burglary. The Sausalito Police Department has issued the following press release.
On Friday, Feb. 2, at about 6 p.m., a mother and two children arrived at their home located in the unit block of Bulkley Avenue. Upon entering the home, the mother witnessed a male adult standing in the master bedroom trying on clothing. The man spontaneous stated his first name was “Daniel.” Frighted for their safety, the mother and the children immediately fled from the scene. The female victim called her husband who then called the police. Sausalito police officers arrived on scene at three minutes later, created a perimeter and searched inside the home. The male suspect was gone.
The suspect description provided was a black male adult, 6’00”, medium build, dark clothing, and wearing a dark colored beanie. An area search and neighborhood canvas was conducted. A parking enforcement officer on patrol in the south end of town noticed a subject matching the description walking southbound on Second Street and notified a patrol officer. The patrol officer located and detained the suspect in the 100 block of South Street. The suspect was identified as Daniel Lewis Clark, a 34-year-old male, from Oakland, California.
The female victim positively identified Clark as the man she witnessed inside of her home. Clark was arrested for burglary. A search of the property he was carrying found stolen mail, checks, and credit cards, a dirk/dagger, and other tools commonly used for burglaries.
Earlier that same day the police were dispatched to a subject attempting to gain entry into a home in the 100 block of South Street. A vigilant neighbor took photographs of the subject as he was attempting to breach the front door; these photographs were provided to the patrol officers. Police were later able to identify Clark as the subject in both incidents. In this separate prowling case, Clark was unable to gain entry and fled the scene. Police responded to the area but were unable to locate Clark at that time. Police are investigating whether Clark can be linked to several other trespassing and prowling events over the past week.
Clark was booked into Marin County jail and charged with burglary, possession of a dagger and identity theft/fraud. Bail set at $50,000.
