
San Rafael Police Department’s Reserve Officer Mark Hedeen is retiring after 55 years of service to the San Rafael Community.
Reserve Officer Hedeen was joined by SRPD Officers, Marine Auxiliary Volunteers, City of San Rafael Leadership, family, friends, and community members as the San Rafael City Council presented a proclamation honoring Hedeen’s retirement after an incredible 55 years of service with the San Rafael Police Department.
Since 1969, Hedeen’s extensive tenure with the department spans roles including Police Cadet, Police Dispatcher, Police Officer, Reserve Police Officer, Open Space Ranger, and Marine Unit Reserve Officer. His leadership and contributions to the operational success of the Police Department’s Marine Unit achieved notable recognition for outstanding service, earning two Gold Medal of Valor awards, seventeen life-saving awards, and numerous meritorious and unit conduct awards, which reflect his dedication to safeguarding San Rafael’s waterways.
Hedeen and the Marine Unit will always be recognized as a well-respected asset throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, having participated in numerous water rescues, high-profile law enforcement operations, worked collaboratively with numerous local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, participated annually in San Francisco’s Fleet Week and SF Bay’s Opening Day on the Bay, and much more.
