Ballot tabulation continued over the weekend for the Marin County Elections Department staff. Registrar of Voters Lynda Roberts said over 45,000 ballots were received on Election Day and staff worked hard to ensure they would be ready for counting as soon as possible.
“All 45,000 ballots were sorted and signatures verified by the end of business the day after Election Day,” Roberts said on March 13. “It was truly an extraordinary effort, and I am very proud of the team’s hard work. We all know how important it is to count ballots soon after Election Day.”
The big task of removing ballots from envelopes continues. “The team is doing a great job every day preparing hundreds of ballots for counting. We want every eligible vote to be counted,” Roberts said.
The deadline to accept ballots postmarked on or before Election Day was March 12, so no additional ballots will be included for counting, which leaves less than 20,000 ballots to count after the March 13 results update. Roberts said she anticipates the turnout in the primary election will end up at about 53%.
Results updates are scheduled for March 13 and 15 and will be posted online no later than 5 PM. The schedule of updates and estimated number of ballots left to process is posted on the department’s main website page.
Roberts is now planning for the required manual tally of at least 1% of ballots cast, which is scheduled to start Monday, March 18. The audit will continue each day until complete.
