A Sausalito fixture, Saylor’s Restaurant closes after 25 years

With little fanfare, Saylor’s Restaurant and Bar at 2009 Bridgeway closed its doors for the last time on Saturday, November 16 after more than 25 years as one of Sausalito’s most beloved restaurants.

The modest ending was completely in character for owners Sean and Sonja Saylor, whose quiet generosity over the years has supported countless local organizations and events, from serving tacos at anchor-out health fairs to feeding volunteers at the Sausalito Art Festival.

In a note posted to the Saylor’s website, Sean and Sonja write, “COVID made us realize that life is short, and if we wanted to check off more boxes on our bucket list, we need to get started.”

Sean, Sonja, their daughter Alyssa, and their longtime staff were recognized for their positive impact on the Sausalito community and on the lives of their patrons throughout Southern Marin with a special proclamation at the beginning of the City Council meeting on November 19.

Councilmembers took turns reading the proclamation, which concluded with an invitation to Sean and Sonja to serve as the Grand Marshals of the 2025 Fourth of July Parade.

Dang. I still have several pre-paid tickets that I haven’t cashed in. Love their food and their hospitality.

I really enjoyed the food. I used to play music there with Lauralee Brown and Co.
Sean and Sonja were among the nicest owners I have ever played for.
