Anti-hate class at high schools led by Jan LaTorre Derby

November 23, 2020 by Marin Leave a Comment

Jan LaTorre Derby, a former Novato Unified School District superintendent, is leading a group of Marin teachers in creating an anti-Semitism and anti-hate course to be added to high school ethnic studies programs next year.

The group’s first meeting is Nov. 17.

“We’re hoping to have something that the teachers can take back to their individual school boards by the spring,” said LaTorre Derby. The effort comes in the wake of revelations that as yet unidentified Redwood High School students made anti-semetic comments on Instagram. Police are investigating the matter as a hate crime.
