The Rotary Club of Ignacio and Rotary District 5150 are looking for deserving advanced degree candidates for a $31,500 one-year graduate scholarship for studying abroad starting in the 2023 fall semester. Applications are now being taken with the submittal deadline 11:59 p.m. Saturday April 1.

The Rotary Global Grant Scholarship supports academic study aligned with one of Rotary’s Seven Areas of Focus (www.rotary.org/en/our-causes). The scholarship is in the amount of $31,500 for graduate level academic study in a foreign country for the academic year 2023-24 and must be used in total by Dec. 31, 2024.
This is not a needs-based scholarship and is based solely on the qualifications of the candidate. Funds may be used for travel, housing, tuition, books, supplies, and/or living expenses.
Candidates may be from anywhere in the world, must study outside of their home country, and must study in a country where a Rotary Club exists.
Final approval of the grant is contingent on Rotary International’s approval given after the selection committee and successful candidate submit all required documentation into the portal shortly after the submission deadline of June 30, 2023. This endeavor will be coordinated by selection committee chair Gina Grant.This scholarship is funded by members of Rotary District 5150 (Rotary Clubs in Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo counties) and The Rotary Foundation.
Rotary District 5150 seeks candidates who:
- Demonstrate excellent leadership skills and potential.
- Possess a proven record of success in their academic field or vocation.
- Have a commitment to community service, striving to make an impact in our world.
- Articulate how their studies and career objectives are aligned with advancing Rotary’s Seven Areas of Focus.
- Agree to communicate about their experience with their sponsoring club in Rotary District 5150 and the host club in their area of study throughout their year. (The successful candidate will be notified by selection committee chair Gina Grant as to which Rotary Club is their host club during their school year as soon as possible after selection.)
- Agree to participate in an exit interview video to be shared with Rotarians and future applicants.
Eligibility
- Candidates may not be Rotarians, Honorary Rotarians, or employees of a club, district, or other Rotary entity or of Rotary International. Spouses, lineal descendants (child or grandchild by blood or legal adoption), spouses of lineal descendants, or ancestors (parent or grandparent) of persons in the aforementioned categories are also ineligible. Please note that Rotarians and their relatives remain ineligible for scholarship awards for 36 months after a Rotarian has resigned from club membership.
- Rotaract Club members and non-Rotarians are eligible for this scholarship.
- Candidates must be sponsored by a Rotary Club in District 5150. Please feel free to contact any of our clubs. A list of clubs may be found at: https://rotary5150.org/clubdirectory/. - Scholarship must be used for a graduate program – masters, PhD, or post-doctoral program. This scholarship is not available for undergraduate studies. Candidates must also complete their undergraduate degree program before commencing scholarship studies.
- Candidates must either have a full offer or conditional offer to a graduate program at time of application or have one remaining full academic year of a graduate program from a multi-year program. This scholarship is not available for a partial year of study.
- Ability to express source of funds for remaining costs above and beyond the$31,500 of this scholarship (See “Additional Funding” section below).
- Candidates must agree that funds will be distributed according to the rules and regulations established by Rotary International and that all eligible receipts will be provided in a timely manner. The Successful candidate will be provided specific instructions on how and when to provide receipts for payment.
