Bike thefts tracked back to homeless encampment, 2 arrested and drugs confiscated

October 10, 2024 by Marin Leave a Comment

Due to several high-end bicycle thefts throughout the Central Marin and San Rafael areas throughout September, 2024, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division partnered with San Rafael Police Department, Central Marin Police Authority and Marin County Coordination of Probation Enforcement (COPE) to conduct a search of an un-housed encampment on Anderson Dr in San Rafael. Multiple stolen bikes have been located in this area in the past, and it was believed persons responsible for these thefts resided in or frequented this encampment.

During the search of the encampment, two subjects were arrested with various outstanding warrants, while an additional subject was arrested for drug paraphernalia possession and probation violations. Two bicycles which were confirmed to be stolen were recovered from this encampment along with two additional bicycles which were taken for observation. Detectives have contacted the potential victims of the bicycle thefts to confirm ownership of the additional bicycles recovered.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank our partner agencies who collaborated on this investigation and help recover this stolen property and reunite it with the rightful owners. @sanrafaelpolice @centralmarinpolice @marinprobation
