Chileno Valley crash victim identified; driver not wearing seatbelt ejected and killed

On Monday Oct. 28, at about 3:40 p.m. a solo motor vehicle collision occurred within the 5900 block of Point Reyes Petaluma Road, within Chileno Valley near the McEvoy Ranch, south of Petaluma within Marin County.

Reportedly the subject, who was operating a 2001 Ford Expedition westbound on Point Reyes Petaluma Road, for reasons unknown and which remain under investigation, lost control of the vehicle he was operating, departed the roadway resulting in the vehicle rolling over onto its roof. The subject, who was determined not to be utilizing the vehicle’s seatbelt restraint devices, was partially ejected from the vehicle during the collision and became partially entrapped beneath the vehicle when it came to rest.

A restrained front seat passenger was able to self-extricate herself from the vehicle after the collision. Emergency Services were dispatched to the scene and upon their arrival, discovered the subject lifeless, unresponsive, and unconscious. Death was declared on the scene without providing resuscitative aid having sustained traumatic injuries incompatible with life.

The decedent has been positively identified as:

Djakari Rashawn PARIANI-TOMPKINS, a 29-year-old man with shared residences in Petaluma and San Rafael.

A forensic postmortem examination with routine toxicology was completed today, October 29,2024. The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigations being completed by the California Highway Patrol – Marin Office and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office – Coroner Division. No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation. Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the California Highway Patrol – Marin Office.
