Expired registration leads to drug arrest in San Rafael

October 22, 2024 by Marin 1 Comment

STOLEN REGISTRATION STICKER LEADS TO A WHOLE LOT MORE:

Just after midnight on Saturday, Oct. 14, an SRPD Officer observed a vehicle and learned that the registration sticker was stolen. The vehicle’s registration was actually expired.

The officer stopped the vehicle and contacted the driver. During the stop, the officer saw that the passenger had an open container of alcohol and also observed drug paraphernalia.

Both the driver and passenger were detained. Officers searched the occupants and the vehicle and located a substantial amount of cocaine and fentanyl.

It was determined that the passenger was the registered owner of the vehicle. The driver was found not be involved with the narcotics or the stolen registration sticker and was released.

The passenger was arrested and booked into jail for transporting narcotics for sale, possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, and for the stolen registration.

This was great police work. With the current Fentanyl crisis, we are proud that our officers are making efforts to remove this dangerous drug from our community’s streets.
