False liberalism hates free speech

October 1, 2024 by Marin Leave a Comment

Sherman R. Fredrick/Properly Subversive

If you cherish free speech, resist the false liberalism that holds incorrect speech is unprotected speech. It threatens us all.

John Kerry — the Biden Administration’s favorite emissary to the world on climate change — became the latest to pledge allegiance to censorship. Responding to a question at the World Economic Forum he said the quiet part out loud: The First Amendment hinders correct climate change consensus.

Yikes! Here’s the direct quote:

But, look, if people go to only one source, and the source they go to is sick and has an agenda, and they’re putting out disinformation, our First Amendment stands as a major block to the ability to be able to hammer it out of existence. What we need is to win the ground, win the right to govern by hopefully winning enough votes that you’re free to be able to implement change.”

In other words, for the world to get its mind right, free speech protections must give way to the truth as mandated by government.

This new liberalism yearns for a day when government can control the narrative for “the greater good.” The Biden Administration tried to bring social media companies to heel during the COVID-19 pandemic with threats and coercion. We know this beyond a shadow of a doubt now from records made public from Facebook and Twitter. We must never forget that lesson.

Don’t be fooled into thinking John Kerry is a one-off on this topic. Most liberal American politicians in 2024 are right there with him — Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Kamala Harris.

Just a few weeks ago, Clinton said this:

It’s important to indict the Russians, just as [Robert] Mueller indicted a lot of Russians who were engaged in direct election interference and boosting Trump back in 2016. But I also think there are Americans who are engaged in this kind of propaganda, and whether they should be civilly, or even in some cases criminally charged is something that would be a better deterrence, because the Russians are unlikely, except in a very few cases, to ever stand trial in the United States.

This is the stuff of book burners who consider the unwashed masses — you and me, by the way — as “deplorables.”

Giving those who would restrict speech and thought on “popular” topics the government deems important for the greater good — like climate change and vaccinations — is like letting a skulk of foxes inside the hen house and ordering them to kill only the non-layers.

Scary times, fellow deplorables. The only fix is to make those who think this way 100% unelectable.

Resist.
