After 27 years of service, the Rev. Jan Heglund will be recognized by the San Rafael City Council and the San Rafael Police Department on Monday, May 19, 2025. The City Council meeting starts at 6 PM at San Rafael City Hall, located at 1400 Fifth Avenue.
The Rev. Jan served the San Rafael Community and SRPD for nearly three decades as a police chaplain. While her service to the community was often during some of the most difficult and painful moments in life, she is also credited with being a part of the happiest occasions, such as celebrations, weddings, graduations, dedications, retirements, and more. Additionally, Reverand Jan was a co-founder of the First Responder Support Network, which helped hundreds of first responders cope with and manage the stresses of being involved in critical incidents. Police Chief David Spiller said, “Reverend Jan has served as a guiding presence during countless critical incidents and was close to many in the organization.”
First Responders and members of the community that Reverend Jan supported during her 27 years of service are encouraged to attend the San Rafael City Council’s recognition. This recognition is also open to all members of the public.
