Good neighbors detain woman hitting child in Novato

August 3, 2025 by Marin Leave a Comment

On July 30 at about 1 p.m., Novato Police officers responded Code 3 (emergency lights and sirens) to an apartment complex on Ignacio Boulevard about a woman hitting a young boy and attempting to steal his bicycle.

While officers were on the way, community members restrained the woman, stopping the attack on the child.

Officers arrived and detained the woman, Khadija Sultan, a 29-year-old Brentwood resident. Officers learned Sultan was a stranger to the child. During the attack, she hit him and took his bicycle.

Novato Fire District medics evaluated the child, who received minor injuries. His parent planned to transport him to a hospital for treatment. Sultan was arrested and booked at Marin County Jail for robbery and child abuse.

While we do not typically encourage community members to become physically involved with in-progress crimes for safety reasons, we thank and commend our neighbors who intervened to protect this young child. We also greatly appreciate the community members who immediately dialed 9-1-1 to report the incident as it was happening. Thank you to the Novato Fire District medics for the care and compassion they showed to the young victim.

Just like this incident, we need your help to protect Novato. If you see something suspicious or unsafe happening, call 9-1-1 for life threatening emergencies and 415-899-1122 for non-emergency reports. Novato neighbors take care of each other and help us create a safer Novato. Keep a watch and call us when you need us. We are here to 24/7 to help.
