Harry Reid’s legacy

September 22, 2020 by Marin Leave a Comment

Sen. Harry Reid

It’s history now, but let’s not forget Sen. Harry Reid’s role in the RBG Vortex of Hypocrisy.

It had long been tradition that the Senate approved judicial appointments by a higher threshold than a simple majority. Reid persuaded Democrats to chuck that and invoke the “nuclear option.” President Obama got a short-term advantage in appointments, but it later allowed Republicans to confirm a boatload of judicial nominees under President Trump, as well as Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. All with less than 60 votes.

In all likelihood, Trump will replace RBG this year with a slim, one-vote majority vote.

If that makes you happy, or pisses you off, you have only Harry Reid to thank … or curse.  — Sherman R. Frederick
