Marin County homes have seen a surge in utility rates to start 2024. One program that can help is the Rising Sun Center for Opportunity Green House Call, which is available to Marin residents this month to help lower energy and water bills, all at no-cost.
In collaboration with the Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN) and the Marin County Community Development Agency Sustainability Team, the Rising Sun Center for Opportunity Green House Call program provides a no-cost installation of energy and water saving devices, performed by local youth working on the program over summer break. This kit is available to those living in single-family homes, duplexes, and fourplexes. Homeowners and renters are encouraged to participate.
Marin residents can sign up online for the Green House Calls program. The program is open to any residence that hasn’t participated in the program within the past five years. The 2024 in-person Green House Call campaign ends July 26.
For each Green House Call, residents can receive the following:
- Home energy and water efficiency assessment;
- Energy-efficient light bulbs;
- A smart power strip OR multiple smart energy plugs*;
- Draft-stopping outlet gaskets;
- Efficient-flow faucet aerators and shower head.
Each Green House Call is performed by local high school and college-aged youth during their summer school breaks.
The program aligns well with the goals of the Marin County Board of Supervisors and the mission of CDA’s Sustainability Team, both of which support healthy, safe, and sustainable communities while preserving Marin’s environmental heritage. The Sustainability Team has developed programs to promote renewable energy, address climate change, encourage green building, recognize green businesses, and implement energy efficiency projects in throughout the county. The policies and programs will ensure that Marin is healthy, vibrant and sustainable for many generations into the future.
CDA Sustainability has other programs for residents, too.
