Last time I visited Oakland, about a month ago, the rental car company warned me not to get gas under any circumstances at a station around the airport due to rampant carjackings and other crime. Don’t do it, they said, about three times between disembarking and leaving the rental car lot.
When the airport tells you to stay clear of the airport corridor, no wonder the Hilton next to the Oakland airport is closing. Oakland has also lost several restaurants of late, including In ‘N Out and Denny’s. The NBA’s Warriors left Oakland a few years back and the Oakland A’s will leave for Las Vegas.
Something is dreadfully wrong with Oakland.
