When I think of the fires that ravage Los Angeles County, I’m reminded of a comment Joe Rogan made when he announced in 2020 he was leaving the “blue bubble” of LaLa Land for the freedom of Austin, Texas.
Local elections matter, he said. Los Angeles has “gone like full communist. It’s out of its f-ing mind.”
California cities are filled with homeless encampments. Crime runs rampant. It would take “some hardcore Rudy Giuliani type mf…er to come in there and knock heads, and nobody wants that, nobody wants that, they’re ‘peace, love and granola and f-ing wear a mask.’”
Anyway, Rogan got out, putting his finger on what no doubt will become big issues after the fires. Local leadership matters.
The politically correct, DEI compliant Los Angeles County Fire Department gave away “surplus” boots, hoses, nozzles, body armor and medication to Ukraine in 2022. The mayor of L.A. left town for a junket to Guana on the eve of the fires. When she got back, city residents were running for their lives.
Los Angeles County has an annual operating budget of some $50 billion, yet critical infrastructure like water delivery to fire hydrants failed during the fires. When the city of Los Angeles moved to cut its Fire Department budget by some $17.6 million last year, L.A. Fire Chief Kristin Crowley warned about the possible consequences of the move:
“The reduction … has severely limited the department’s capacity to prepare for, train for and respond to large-scale emergencies, including wildfires“.
Gov. Gavin Newsom, the poster boy for progressive, windmill tipping governance, is taking much criticism, as he should.
Using the fire as a backdrop for his 2028 presidential run, he told Californians “the state is taking early, proactive steps to coordinate with local partners to protect communities as dangerous weather enters our state.”
A vintage “proactive” Newsom move. The next day the Pacific Palisades community was wiped out.
Remember, he’s the guy who spent $20 billion to end homelessness in California with the end result of increasing homelessness.
Look, the moral of this story is the politicians running Californian have taxed the bejeebers out of residents and visitors to tip at windmills instead of providing common sense safety, infrastructure and security for the people.
Joe Rogan sniffed it out in 2020 and got the hell out of there.
For those who decide to stay, vote better. It’s your only hope.
