Oh, Ick: Library privileges were immediately suspended for a man who was sitting at the public library’s computer section, watching porn with his pants down around his ankles. His hands were not on the keyboard, if you know what we mean. Police took him away.
Smoke: Several people called the police about smoke coming from a chimney on the Caledonia Street area on March 6. Police and fire responded. It was a clogged chimney.
Punched: A citizen called the police when he said he was punched twice in the shoulder by a contractor over the price of the contractor’s work.
Tesla Driver: Someone parked a red Tesla SUV on the no parking side of Rodeo Avenue creating a dangerous situation on the blind curve there. Police responded. The bad parker was contacted and the offending Telsa was moved.
Tree Fell: A tree fell on a man’s car on Bridgeway. Information exchanged between tree owner and car owner.
Where’s My Car: A woman who was arrested now can’t find her car. She can’t remember exactly where she was arrested. Police gave her the address.
Suspicious: A homeless man was reported climbing flag police and fences to look into parked cars. Police kept an eye on him.
NOVATO
Road Closed: The 200 Block of Alameda Del Prado and Cielo Lane were closed Tuesday night (March 7) due to a rollover collision that damaged a power pole on Alameda Del Prado at Cielo Lane.
Gas Leak: A road closure and shelter-in-place order took place overnight on Marin Valley Drive at Green Oak Drive. A car collision and a gas leak were reported on the south end of Marin Valley Drive at Green Oak Drive. Residents on Green Oak Drive were asked to shelter-in-place. Residents of Marin Valley Drive were impacted by this closure as Marin Valley Drive was closed at the south end of Green Oak Drive. The incident concluded Wednesday morning (March 8).
Arrest: Albert Dean Long, 58, of Fairfax, was arrested last week following a burglary at the Shell gas station on Nave Drive. Long was apprehended after a brief chase and the use of a stun gun. Long was not seriously injured. He was arrested on a variety of crimes, including burglary and resisting arrest.
MARIN COUNTY SHERIFF
Missing: Lawrence (aka “Larry”) Atchison of Sonoma County is still missing and search/rescue operations are still underway. SRPD detectives, with the assistance of local residents, located residential surveillance footage that showed Larry walking in the area of Summerfield Road and Carissa Avenue at 4:15 p.m. on Feb. 27.
Larry is a 64-year-old white male, 6-feet tall, 200 pounds, with gray hair and brown eyes. Larry was last seen wearing a black Columbia jacket without a hood, dark blue jeans, and black slip-on shoes.
Rescue: Today (March 4) at around 2 p.m., the Marin County Sheriff’s Department’s Open Space Rangers received a report of a medical call on the Big Rock Ridge fire road on the Lucas Valley open space preserve. The reported medical was for a male in his 50’s suffering from altered consciousness and lacerations. An Open Space Deputy along with open space rangers responded via ATV and UTV carrying medical equipment and responded to the lat and long of the reported patient. Upon arrival with CHP – Golden Gate Division Air Operations H32, first aid was rendered to the patient who appeared to have suffered from
a stroke while hiking and fell down the hillside sustaining further injury. The patient was loaded onto a backboard and carried safely up the hillside to H32 where he was transported to the John Muir health medical center. The open space rangers are responsible for patrolling and responding to over 20,000 acres of open space land and over 30 open space preserves throughout the county of Marin.
SAN RAFAEL
Coffee Talk: On March 15 at 8:30 a.m. the San Rafael Police Department would like to have coffee with you at Cup O’Karma, 850 Fourth Street.
Good Dog: Police Dog Achilles retired March 1. Achilles came to the SRPD in early 2019 where he was partnered with Officer Zach Brickell. An instant bond was formed, and Achilles went into service on March 17, 2019. Achilles is a graduate of K9 patrol school, K9 detection school for methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine, SWAT & K9’s interacting during deployment school and K9 Tactical Training School (KATTS). During his time in service Achilles has participated in numerous public relations events including presentations at day care facilities, schools and public meetings. On patrol he has been involved in numerous high-risk cases, apprehensions, narcotics searches and assisted in the location of wanted individuals. He has served as an excellent de-escalation tool and has led to the peaceful resolution of countless incidents involving dangerous individuals. He has been a valuable resource to our partner agencies in Marin County Achilles has not only been an extremely useful tool to the San Rafael Police Department, but an amazing partner and friend. He will get to spend the rest of his days doing his favorite “off-duty” activities. Sleeping on the couch when no one is looking. Eating the snacks the toddler in his home provides when no one is looking and trips to Tahoe where he can swim and play in the snow.
Crash: A rollover car crash took place about noon on Francisco Boulevard East. The driver, who had been drinking alcohol, ran away from the scene and was located by police a short distance away. No one was injured. The road was briefly closed to clear the wreckage.
