Here are the top policy items on Supervisors’ agenda for Tuesday, August 20. The meeting is to begin at 9 AM.
Response to Grand Jury Report “Sea Level Rise: The Water is Upon Us. We Cannot Run – We Cannot Hide.”
The Office of the County Executive will request the Board to consider the Grand Jury report, which highlights the threat of sea level rise in Marin County and the San Francisco Bay Area. The report cites NOAA’s projection of a 12-inch increase by 2050, discusses the associated risks such as flooding and infrastructure damage, and calls for urgent adaptation measures. (Staff Report).
Request for Housing Project Financing Approval
The Office of the County Executive will ask the Board to approve a resolution that supports a $33 million tax-exempt financing effort. This funding, through the California Municipal Finance Authority, is aimed at helping Parnow Preservation LP, a partnership led by Security Properties, to acquire, renovate, and equip a multifamily rental housing project at 164 North San Pedro Road in San Rafael. The report also highlights the forward-looking efforts in Climate-Smart Agriculture, emphasizing strong partnerships that are helping to create resilient and sustainable farming practices in Marin and Sonoma Counties. Intoxicating Hemp in Marin County
The Department of Health and Human Services will make a presentation on the growing issue of synthetic hemp products containing harmful levels of THC being sold in Marin County, particularly affecting youth. Covering the associated health risks, the current retail landscape, and the need for stronger regulatory protections, the presentation will also emphasize the importance of county-wide action to ensure equitable prevention efforts across all communities.
