On Tuesday March 25 at approximately 3:30 p.m. it was reported to 9-1-1 a man fishing for mussels on the shoreline of Rodeo Beach within the Marin Headlands fell into the surf.
He was rescued by surfers, who witnessed the event, pulled to shore but was determined to be unconscious and unresponsive. First aid was provided until first responders arrived and continued resuscitative efforts to revive the man determined to be in cardiac arrest. He did not respond to the medical treatment and his death was pronounced on the scene at 4:19 PM.
The man was identified as Oakland man Ho Yu Wong, 78.
A forensic postmortem examination with toxicology testing will be completed later this week. The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigations being completed by the National Park Service – US Park Police and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office – Coroner Division. No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation.
