Opinion: This is how the Democratic Party dies

March 17, 2025 by Marin Leave a Comment

Is this how the Democratic Party dies? Rep. Sarah McBride, a Democrat from Delaware, lecturing Republicans for being “obsessed with culture war issues” and scolding them for being “weird and bizarre.”

Dude!

You were “Tim” before you became “Sarah.” You’re standing up before the nation dressed like a lady saying others are “weird and bizarre” for noticing?

C’mon, man!

This kind of self-righteous finger-wagging provides yet another sign that the end is coming for Democrats as a national party. As Bill Maher predicted last week, we may have seen the last Democrat president.

Almost two months into the Trump Revolution, Democrats still have no line of opposition that resonates with the average voter. Do they stand for — what? — government waste, foreign aid that promotes trans life, continued deaths in Ukraine, a Social Security accounting system so antiquated it still has 150-year-olds in the system?

Is the symbol of today’s Democratic Party Al Green, a 77-year-old shaking his cane at the State of the Union address? Or is it Maxine Waters and a gaggle of elected officials with television cameras performing outrage at the door of the Department of Education? Maybe it’s the young protesters keying Tesla cars or paid protesters pretending to be constituents disrupting Republican town halls.

Today the news brings us the story that one of the kookier members of Congress, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), is being urged to run against Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) for saying he would vote to advance the House-passed continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government.

“There is a deep sense of outrage and betrayal,” Ocasio-Cortez told reporters late Thursday, referring to Schumer’s decision. “And this is not just about progressive Democrats, This is across the board — the entire party.”

Seriously? The “River To The Sea” crowd wants to purge the party of Jewish leaders because they won’t go along with shutting the government down?

And so this week ends with the death rattle of the Democratic Party. Hard to make a case for anything else.

COVID-19 Deaths

We’re still arguing over how many lives were taken by the COVID-19 pandemic. 1.2 million seems like it is the over-and-under number. Maybe 1.4 million. You can dig into the issue, if you like, by clicking on this Reason Magazine piece here. But if you need a dark stat for the cocktail party circuit this weekend, I’ve got you covered.

COVID deaths among Americans 25 years old or older between 2020 and 2023 saved Social Security about $156 billion.
