Seven outstanding young women graduating from Novato and San Marin High Schools this month have been awarded $1,000 scholarships by P.E.O. Chapter SS in Novato.
Scholarships were awarded to Surabhi Chinta, Franccesca LaBou and Erlinda Sacche, who are graduating from Novato High School, and to Noela DeFrenza, Paige Grossi, Elizabeth Hayes and Kaylei Westen from San Marin High School. Their academic goals range from special education and nursing to psychology, environmental science and engineering.
“We are so impressed by the quality of students our high schools produce,” said E.B. Hanlein, the chapter’s scholarship selection chair. “These graduates are excellent students, hardworking, ambitious and eager to make a positive impact on society.”
Since the local scholarship was funded in 2018, Chapter SS has awarded $32,750 to 25 graduating Novato women. “Chapter SS, which was organized here in 1970, has always supported the P.E.O. organization’s educational projects, but we wanted to do even more right in our hometown,” Hanlein said. “The need is so great and the candidates so deserving.”
