Petaluma man and kid on probation arrested in San Rafael on drug and burglary-related charges

March 7, 2025 by Marin 1 Comment

K-9 UNIT NETS A GUN, DRUGS, BURGLARY TOOLS, AND STOLEN PROPERTY:

Last night, around 8:00 PM, SRPD’s K-9 unit made a traffic stop for a traffic violation. As the suspect vehicle came to a stop in the area of Second Street and Irwin Street in Downtown San Rafael, a suspect passenger immediately fled from the vehicle with a bag. Additional officers responded to the scene to assist with capturing the fleeing passenger.

While officers were looking for the passenger, our K-9 officer continued investigating the circumstances with the vehicle and why the passenger decided to run. During the investigation, K-9 Tango was alerted to the presence of illegal drugs in the car. Officers detained the driver, an 18-year-old male from Petaluma, and searched the vehicle. Officers located narcotics, burglary tools, and stolen property belonging to 16 different victims. While this was occurring, officers located the suspect passenger, who fled the vehicle at the San Rafael Transit Center.

The suspect passenger was detained, and officers retraced his flight path, which led to the finding of the bag he had been carrying. Inside the bag was an unregistered loaded handgun. The suspect, a juvenile, was also found to be on probation.

Both the driver and passenger were arrested on charges that ranged from possession of a loaded firearm, possession of stolen property, possession of narcotics, possession of burglary tools, fleeing and evading from an officer, possession of stolen credit cards, driving while unlicensed, and violating the terms of probation.

This was another great example of our K-9 Unit and officers performing proactive police work and teamwork that resulted in guns and drugs being taken off our community’s streets.
