Public Marin County budget workshops set for Feb. 24-26

February 19, 2025 by Marin Leave a Comment

The Marin County Board of Supervisors will hold its annual budget workshops February 24-26 to review a draft workplan for all County departments and discuss emerging budget priorities.

The workshops are open to the public and provide an opportunity to learn about the County’s financial outlook and key budget initiatives while offering public input on key budget decisions. During the three-day session, the Board of Supervisors will hear presentations on major budget topics, including:

  • Budget Development & Emerging Issues, covering economic forecasts, state and federal legislative impacts, Race Equity efforts, participatory budgeting, and County Executive restructuring effort.
  • Mental Health Planning, with updates from Health & Human Services on behavioral health initiatives.
  • Workforce Recruitment & Retention, focusing on strategies to strengthen County staffing.
  • Emergency Preparedness & Wildfire Response, with insights from the Fire Department on disaster readiness.
  • Facilities Planning, addressing infrastructure and capital improvement projects.

“This winter, the County of Marin’s budget staff is closely monitoring economic developments at the local, regional, state, and national scales,” said Josh Swedberg, the County’s Budget Director. “Since we know that our economic condition can change rapidly, we’re committed to sensible and balanced fiscal planning that maximizes essential services and reflects the highest priorities and needs of our community.”

On June 26, 2024, the Board approved a $815 million budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. Across all funds, the one-time and ongoing expenditure plan reflected a 4% increase over the previous fiscal year and a 4% boost within the General Fund.

Following the February workshops, the County budget team will review input from the Board and the public, work with departments, and develop a proposed budget for review by mid-May.

The workshops will take place in the Board chamber (Suite 330) at the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael and will be available online. Monday’s session begins at 9 AM, while Tuesday and Wednesday’s sessions begin at 1  PM. The public is encouraged to provide input, with dedicated time for public comment at the start of each session.

The sessions will be live-streamed and available for viewing on Comcast Channel 27 or AT&T Channel 99. Participation details, budget materials, and interactive tools can be accessed on the County’s budget webpage.

Feedback about budget priorities may be emailed to the budget staff.
