A little transparency from town leaders, please

October 24, 2023 by Marin Leave a Comment

Lynnette Shaw/Listen Up

I am pleased to see that after I spent my campaign last year pointing out we need our streets repaired, our sidewalks fixed, our firehouse renovated, more police and firefighters hired, that all these things are starting to happen. Of course the Town Council is taking the credit but apparently they looked at my campaign materials. This does not mean I wish to run for the office again but at least the unresponsive TC got the message.

I have a philosophy that local government should be an advocate for the people. We have not seen that happen with the current TC and, in fact, are doing things in complete defiance of the majority of tax paying, landowning residents whose money is being spent wildly on failing unpopular projects and outside consultants. Why are they hiring people not from Fairfax? Why are they hiring in secret? Why are they conducting the Town’s business in closed sessions?

I believe there have been several violations of the Brown Act, to boot.

That is why I founded the Fairfax Problem Solvers Club since our current administrators cannot seem to solve our problems.

Also, I am speaking with several citizens about  finding candidates who will be in tune with our population and not treat us with disrespect. Any elected official who does not allow the citizens to speak, any official policies that censor letters from constituents that magically disappear instead of being entered into the public record, any decisions that are against the will of the majority of Fairfax people must be changed … for the better.

I wish to know which officials have been funded by development interests. I wish to know why an out of town political group called the DSA is calling the shots for public policy here. I wish to know why the initiative that was circulated to overturn the unfair rent and eviction policies (written by the DSA) was booted to November 2024. I wish to know why letters that don’t support the TC, and were duly submitted on time, never make it to the public record. I wish to know why the filming of our public meetings are edited to exclude criticism of the TC. I wish to know why our speaking time has been cut to 1 minute for the public to express their complaints and opinions. I wish to know why there is no money to pay for port-a-potties for the homeless. No other local government is guilty of these abrogations of their duty to the People.

Am I disgusted and tired of this nonsense? Absolutely.

It is time to change things for the better in Fairfax.

Thanks to all the thousands of people who do love and support the Marin Alliance. We appreciate all of you who show that love, despite the puzzling political opposition to my valuable business at the TC.

I will keep standing up for what is righteous for the citizens of Fairfax.

(Lynnette Shaw is the owner of Marin Alliance.)
