Guitar phenom, songwriter and vocalist Asher Belsky grew up in San Francisco, California. Asher is endorsed by Gibson Guitars and was an inaugural member of the Gibson Generation Group, a select group of talented young guitar players from around the world. Asher Belsky will headline a show at Sweetwater Music Hall on June 28.
Asher will be backed at Sweetwater by Grammy-winning drummer Thomas Pridgen, who has dubbed him a natural-born superstar, and noted Bay Area bassist Giulio Cetto. Opening the show will be talented singer-songwriter Rachel Barton, who also hails from the Bay Area[.
Performing his own music with roots in rock and R&B, Asher recently performed at the Mill Valley Music Festival and has played across the Bay Area at venues such as the Black Cat Jazz Club, Great American Music Hall, the Bottom of the Hill, and the Sebastiani Theatre. In addition to leading his own band, Asher has performed alongside Michael Franti & Spearhead, Darryl ‘DMC’ McDaniels (Run DMC), the Marcus King Band, Isaiah Sharkey (John Mayer, D’Angelo), MC Hammer, ALO, and Maurice “Mobetta” Brown (Silksonic, Anderson Paak). Asher has also performed several times for the Golden State Warriors at the Chase Center.
Asher Belsky burst onto the Bay Area music scene when Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz of ALO invited the then 14-year-old to play the Summer Solstice Jam in Golden Gate Park with him. Asher went on to play an opening set at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival with Marcus King and was a featured performer at the Fillmore and the Beacon Theatre in New York City for the Allman Family Revival – all before turning 16.
Asher just finished his freshman year at USC’s renowned Thornton School of Music, where the faculty selected him as the recipient of the undergraduate guitar award, and he made the Dean’s List. Asher is currently playing a series of shows in London with his Thornton program and recording at legendary Abbey Road Studios.
Guitar Player Magazine writes that Asher Belsky, “plays with a sense of soul that belies his age.” Guitar.com has labeled him “the next big thing.” ALO’s Lebowitz says his young sidekick “plays from the heart, has a great command over his instrument, and the best part is, he’s just getting started!”
