Boy Scouts selling luminarias

November 15, 2021 by Marin Leave a Comment

Marin Boy Scouts are starting their annual fundraising effort to support the Scouting programs.

For more than 50 years, Novato Scouts have participated in creating “handmade” luminarias – a votive candle placed in a white paper bag weighted by sand.

Residents and local businesses line their entrances and driveways and homes on Christmas Eve, Christmas night or New Year Eve.

The Scouts that make and sell luminarias use the funds for monthly camping trips or outings, training, advancement, achievements and summer camp. Troops also volunteer time for Eagle Scout projects and community based activities.  Creating luminarias is a well- cherished tradition in Novato as well as in many other communities around the country.

Troop 200’s luminarias can be purchased on their web site at www.novatoluminarias.org. A box of 10 ready-to-use luminarias is $9. In addition, the Troop will be selling them in their neighborhood and in front of the Pini Hardware in December.
