The all-volunteer Novato Fourth of July Parade Committee is already at work and recruiting “game day help” for the Independence Day celebration along Grant Avenue.
The parade, the largest single-day annual event in Novato each year, made a successful return to the in-person celebration in 2022 after the pandemic forced cancellations in 2020 and 2021. The largest Independence Day parade in the North Bay attracts thousands of spectators and 80-100 entries. It starts on Grant Avenue at Reichert Avenue in the heart of Old Town and runs west to Seventh Street.
Typically, it takes 80 volunteers to run a safe and smooth event. Volunteers are assigned to duties such as traffic monitoring, barricade and trash can placement, temporary signage installation, barricade supervising, and post-parade cleanup.
This is an excellent opportunity for high school students to accumulate community service hours. Service and community organization members can volunteer together to assist with the parade. A mandatory orientation meeting for volunteers will be held on July 3 in the late afternoon.
To help, start by completing the electronic form on the parade website. Email questions to NovatoParadeVolunteer@gmail.com.
The parade theme for 2023 is “A Nation of Innovation.” Registration is open for parade entries and for vintage convertible vehicles to be used to transport parade VIPs. More parade information is on novatoparade.com.
