College of Marin lifts vaccination rule to attend school; ends mask rule

March 3, 2023 by Marin Leave a Comment

College of Marin Board of Trustees voted unanimously to suspend Board Policy 3507, requiring employees, students, and volunteers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless approved as exempt due to verified medical or religious reasons.

COM officials continuously monitor the public health conditions related to the current status of COVID-19 transmission levels in the Bay Area, and Marin County community transmission have remained low for a number of weeks. Suspending the policy was brought before COM’s COVID-19 Oversight Team, a workgroup comprised of faculty, classified professionals, and administrators, for discussion earlier in the month.

In light of the California state of emergency regarding COVID-19 ending as of Feb. 28, Trustees considered whether the current circumstances warranted suspending the policy. Given the ever-changing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, Trustees agreed that suspending Board Policy 3507 for the foreseeable future was the best path forward.

College officials will continue monitoring Marin Health and Human Services data on virus levels in wastewater, hospitalizations and deaths, facility outbreaks, and emerging variants of concern. Superintendent/President David Wain Coon will keep Board Officers apprised of public health conditions and make recommendations to protect the health and wellbeing of COM and the communities it serves.
