Corte Madera Town Band plays Friday (Dec. 9)

December 7, 2022 by Marin Leave a Comment

At 7 p.m. on Dec.  9 at the Corte Madera Community Center, the Corte Madera Town Band will ring in the holiday season in true style at its 2022 Holiday Concert. Be there to celebrate a fun evening of great seasonal music, great friends, and holiday spirit! Refreshments will be served.

Admission is free. The concert this year is under the baton of Conductor Mark Nemoyten. The 40-piece band will “deck the halls” with holiday sounds both familiar and innovative. You’ll hum along to the tunes being played and may even have a chance to sing-along once or twice. It will be an hour of great, light entertainment.

The Corte Madera Town Band was formed by Gwyn Lister and several members of the Corte Madera Community Foundation in April of 1996. The first rehearsal brought together 17 musicians, aged 11 to 60+, including a bongo drum, two snare drums, several horns, and two accordions. Several of the original musicians are still playing.

The Band had its first performance in the Larkspur-Corte Madera July 4th Parade of 1996 – and we have been in every 4th of July Parade since then. Over the years, “Marin’s Own” band has played at many Town events, local retirement residences, and Lion Club-sponsored concerts at the Corte Madera Community Center. The Band has also played in events in Novato, Petaluma, Mill Valley, San Rafael, and San Francisco.

Each year the Band has seven or eight performances, including the Fourth of July Parade, the Corte Madera Oktoberfest, the Summer Music Concert Series at the Corte Madera Piccolo Pavilion, a Holiday concert, and several times at the Golden Gate Park Band Festival.
