The youthful Dianne Feinstein who once graced the halls of Congress with a whip-smart mind that could disarm even the grumpiest of military generals is gone, sadly. In her last term – which even her friends say was one damn term too long – she’s become an absentee senator for California.
The vultures who seek to align themselves with her replacement are circling. And the issue of succession has become a complicated matter for elite California Democrats.
If Sen. Feinstein dies or resigns before her term ends in 2024, the replacement would be chosen by Gov. Gavin Newsom. He has pledged to fill the seat with a Black woman, which favors longtime Oakland Rep. Barbara Lee. But former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi backs Rep. Adam Schiff, which means Pelosi is invested in Feinstein finishing out her term in body, if not in mind.
Also in the mix is Rep. Katie Porter, who at this point is edging out both Lee and Schiff among the party faithful.
At the state’s Democratic Convention in Los Angeles last weekend, Porter, Schiff and Lee divided support among a greater pool of likely voters. Porter got 17%, Schiff 14% and Lee 9%. The bulk of potential voters took a pass on the straw poll.
So, after a three-month layoff from Congress in which Sen. Feinstein recuperated at home from a series of illnesses, she’s back in Washington, D.C. All accounts from the national press corps report she looks deathly frail and does not appear to be able to function without a confidant by her side. One of those confidants is Nancy Pelosi’s daughter, Nancy Corinne Prowda. The Hill reports Prowda is her full-time caregiver.
Last week another bombshell report from the New York Times revealed that Sen. Feinstein as late as last year was clueless about what was going on around her in the Senate.
The Hill reported that Feinstein “expressed confusion” when Vice President Kamala Harris presided over the Senate to cast a tie breaking vote.
According to the new report, Feinstein said “What is she doing here?”
It’s the latest reporting on the 89-year-old’s failure to understand her surroundings.
It’s like a bad re-make of the movie “Being There.” And, it’s a horrible way to go for a woman who burst into a man’s world of power in 1992 … and towered above it like no other.

Maybe you should go back and learn some US History! Strom Thurmond. He insisted he would get to 100.. he was moved to a facility to help manage his meds. He collapsed on the Senate floor and the reporters said no problem, it’s not like he hasn’t done it before. He needed help banging the gavel to start the Senate.. as for the president, why don’t you look up everything he has done. Sure beats the orange idiot.

I feel that it is cruel that a woman that has dedicated her life to the service of the American people is having to endure her last years placating her handlers. I equate this to elder abuse. Where is her family? For God’s sake could someone read this and help her transition to retirement. What is wrong with our country. Same goes for Biden. Open up nominations. He is in a comprised situation too.
