California Fire Maps. On February 24, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) released draft versions of fire hazard maps for communities in Northern California. The maps were last updated more than 10 years ago.
Although the draft maps had not been published to the Cal Fire website as of February 27, the San Francisco Chronicle has made available an interactive map showing the updated risk zones.
Firefighters from the Southern Marin Fire District are currently reviewing the updated fire hazard maps for their potential impacts. According to the new maps, large areas of Sausalito are now considered at very high, high, or moderate risk of fire, primarily due to wildfire threat from nearby open space.
Please subscribe to the fire district’s monthly e-newsletter to receive the latest update on the status of the fire hazard maps and their effect on area residents as they relate to building codes, insurance, and other considerations.
