The city has put the seismic retrofit of historic Fairfax Pavilion on hold to better evaluate and preserve Native American artifacts possibly under the building. The Pavilion sits atop of what is believed to be a site of significant Native American activity.
The decision means that a nearly $2 million federal grant to fix the Pavilion will be lost. But city staff think more funding will be available down the line as the city works to make sure no prehistory is lost in the project.
