Fire Department rescues horse stuck in deep mud

March 13, 2024 by Marin 2 Comments

We all are familiar with the scenario of the fire department rescuing cats stuck in trees.

But that’s not the only animal in need of help.

This week the Novato Fire Protection District responded to a horse stuck in a deep, muddy, ditch and unable to move. Novato Fire requested the Marin County Large Animal Rescue Team (LAR). The LAR is a partnership between Marin County Humane, Marin Sheriff’s Posse, and Marin Search and Rescue. This team attends specialized training specifically for these events.

The responding agencies worked together to get the horse on its feet. This requires specialized large animal rescue equipment and often heavy machinery. The different agencies were able to work seamlessly together in order to effect a rescue. The horse was able to walk off unharmed with it’s owner!
