Marin’s favorite son Jared Goff gave back to his old high school, which is a very cool thing to do.
The former quarterback at Marin Catholic High School honored his school after the Wildcats football team this year won the state championship. He bought the team Championship Rings – and presented them in person – as recognition of their accomplishment, a website in Detroit reported.
One of those MC players, senior Charlie Allen, explained what Goff’s gesture meant to him.
“Jared’s impact is huge for Marin Catholic. He’s been an incredible inspiration and mentor to our Championship team and to every young athlete in Marin County. Winning a State Championship is awesome… but receiving our State Championship rings from J.G. himself makes it even more special. Thank you Jared for continuing to support all of us.”
Marin Catholic president, Tim Navone, told the website Pride of Detroit that Goff has been involved in the community for some time, offering both his time and financial support.
“What makes this special is this is not a one-time gift from a celebrity alum,” Navone said. “Rather, Jared is in constant contact with the school helping in all areas all the time, supporting scholarship students, buying computers, doing Zoom sessions to support our students through Covid, and anything else that we ask. He took time to speak to the team before the season, and then bookended it with this special gift. He’s been a leader from day one and continues to shine. What an incredible example he sets for our entire Wildcat community.”
Nice going, Jared. Makin’ Marin proud.
CROSBY, STILLS, NASH AND ROGAN
Before it was popular to say so, I contended that if America ever goes the route of egg-head dictators like Pol Pot, Americans will go there at the urging of well-meaning liberals.
I hate it when I’m right because it’s happening right now with Neil Young (whose music I absolutely adore) insisting Spotify take his music off their platform because Spotify host Joe Rogan said something on COVID treatment that Young considered “misinformation.”
That’s a bad look for Neil, in my estimation. A few other musicians have jumped on the bandwagon but, you know, I could live the rest of life happily without hearing another Joni Mitchell song.
But Neil Young? Well, not so much.
Meanwhile, comedian Argus Hamilton had the right approach to this dangerous brouhaha: “Neil Young asked that Spotify drop Joe Rogan’s podcast for his anti-vaccine views but Spotify instead decided to drop all of Neil Young’s music from the platform. It gets worse. Baby boomers downloading our favorite ’70s songs on Spotify must now search Crosby, Stills, Nash and Rogan.”
VERDICT IS IN: LOCKDOWNS DIDN’T WORK
Johns Hopkins University studied the effects of lockdowns in reducing deaths from COVID-19 early-on in the pandemic and found … wait for it … lockdowns didn’t work as hoped.
“We find no evidence that lockdowns, school closures, border closures, and limiting gatherings have had a noticeable effect on COVID-19 mortality,” the researchers wrote.
The researchers concluded that “lockdowns should be rejected out of hand as a pandemic policy instrument.”
If that study holds up to scrutiny – and it is Johns Hopkins University, not Oral Roberts Community College – then it’s time to drop all COVID-19 mandates. No?
