There’s been a lot of public transportation pipe dreams about creating an east-west spur to the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit system. Now there is one.
The 2022 State Rail Plan will include the idea of creating direct rail transportation between Novato and Suisun City.
Now I know that these kinds of deals don’t always come to fruition and even if they do it is a long process fraught with trolls and politicians. But when it comes to public transportation and Marin economic development, this idea makes a lot of sense. It’s one that should be fast tracked.
Look for the details of the plan to be revealed next week.
It would be nice if Marin could make this happen in a more timely way than, say, the Petaluma “narrows” highway project.
IN-PERSON BETTER GOVERNMENT
It’s nobody’s fault, really, but the Age of Covid has severely hampered interaction between elected officials and their constituencies. It’s time to return to in-person meetings, especially if Omicron is the new iteration for COVID-19. Time seems right.
GIANTS SPRING BASEBALL
I recently received an email reminding me that it’s time to snag my place at the spring training game in March between the San Francisco Giants and the L.A. Dodgers. I’ve been to many-a game at the Giant’s spring training facility in Scottsdale. I think the old-school venue there is absolutely terrific.
Then I saw the prices.
Be prepared to spend between $150 to $250 for a nice seat.
If you want a cheap seat, well, prepare yourself to shell out $80 to sit in the grass in the outfield.
SPEAKING OF BASEBALL
Unless you are from Chicago or an uber baseball fan, you won’t know the name Les Grobstein. He died last week at 69 after a long career as a Chicago sportscaster.
His claim to fame came when he recorded Lee Elia, Chicago Cubs manager, go off in his famous 1983 profanity-filled rant on Cubbie fans. I think you will remember it:
“What the (expletive) am I supposed to do, go out there and let my (expletive) players get destroyed every day and be quiet about it? For the (expletive) nickel-dime people who turn up? The (expletive) don’t even work. That’s why they’re out at the (expletive) game. They oughta go out and get a (expletive) job and find out what it’s like to go out and earn a (expletive) living. Eighty-five percent of the (expletive) world is working. The other fifteen percent come out here.”
ONE MORE THING
– An angel asked God what he was doing. “Making Canadians,” God said. “Aww they’re so nice,” said the angel. “Oh, yeah,” said God. “Watch this” as she dropped a hockey puck.
– “Your phone message is important to us. Please stay on the line until it’s no longer important to you.”
– I don’t “mansplain.” But, let me tell you to recognize it when you hear it.
– Most people are in the state of life where they use their phone to record good memories. I’m of the age where I use my phone to shoot pictures of labels and then enlarge the picture so I can read them.
Thanks for reading, everybody. Until next week, dear readers, avoid soreheads, laugh a little and always question authority.
