On March 25, no earlier than 5 p.m., the Marin County Board of Supervisors will conduct a review of the Transparent Review of Unjust Transfers and Holds (TRUTH) Act as required by state law.
The TRUTH Act is a California law that restricts county sheriffs from cooperating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The Marin County Sheriff plans to share a report about interaction and communication with ICE in 2024.
The Marin County Sheriff and his staff no longer inquire about immigration status when carrying out duties. The Sheriff’s Department also stopped responding to ICE regarding release dates for low-level offenses.
Since 2020, ICE is no longer welcome in the secure part of the Marin County Jail and staff no longer tracks ICE arrests at the jail.
The Board, which is supportive of these policies, will take no action other than to host the forum and encourage public feedback.
Spanish translation will be provided.
I am relieved to read about the Marin Co. policy of noncooperation with federal agents. At least, I hope the noncooperation policy extends to FBI officials, in addition to ICE. Recent stories re: the “disappearance” of people off the streets of the United States with absolutely NO.due process shock the conscience. I am happy I live in CA as I hope we are strongly united here against the lawlessness of the current White House administration. I will gladly support ALL members of our community to be free from the draconian & racist practices we are watching in plain view. Thank you.
So if I’m a criminal gang member, I’m definitely coming to Marin.
You’re welcome to leave.
As a woman who grew up in Marin County and now has daughters, I can speak to how unsafe our community truly is. Have you forgotten about the rates of girls under 18 who are preyed upon by sexual predators, kidnapped, and murdered? Not a single parent lets their child walk to school or play outside with friends. That says a lot about the American Dream, it’s not real. Police, sheriff’s, and DA’s should absolutely allow ICE to do their job and enforce our laws. What’s the purpose of rule of law if it’s not enforced? Until our streets are safe for our daughters to walk to school, we should all be doing our part to vet every community member. Enough with the crime, drugs, homeless, and predators. I grew up hearing my grandfathers horror stories from 40 years on SFPD and now my uncles are Oakland PD. I grew up in the wealthiest county where kids were murdered, drugged, raped, kidnapped and a handful disappeared without a trace. It’s only gotten worse in the last 30 years and to third world levels in the past five years. How bad does it have to get before government and city officials cooperate and enforce laws intended to protect US citizens (not illegals from foreign countries)? The arrest and release of criminals is unconscionable. Would you let your daughter walk to school? No! Stop sitting on your hands and make our community safe enough for our children.
Stop acting like there is even remotely the amount of crime you mention. Where are your sources? Where are you living? I see plenty of children of all ages moving about unattended with no consequences in all parts of Marin.
