The City of Sausalito will host its 42nd Chili Cook-off in Dunphy Park on Saturday, Sept. 18. The event features all the chili you can eat for $15, plus live music from Tom Rigney and Flambeau. The hours are 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Everyone is invited to form a team and participate as a chef. There is no cost to enter the cook-off, but teams will need to make at least 15 gallons of chili, and cooking must be done on-site. Chefs compete in three contest categories: Judges’ Choice, People’s Choice, and Best Booth.
Registration to participate as a chef is now open. Each team registered by August 27 will receive two free 2021 Chili Cook-off aprons with their team’s name on it. Additional information may be found on the Chili Cook-off website.
All chili must be cooked that morning at the park. Ingredients may be prepared prior to the cook-off and be put together at the event. Beans may be pre-soaked, onions chopped, garlic pressed, etc.
Tasting will begin at 12:00 p.m. SHARP and NOT before. Please plan accordingly and start cooking in time to have your chili ready to taste by noon.
Any questions about the Chili Cook-off may be directed to Recreation Supervisor Julie Myers at jmyers@sausalito.gov or (415) 289-4198. Online ticket sales will begin September 7.
