The documentary Island of the Bounty by Ted Cochran will air 8 p.m. on June 6, on Comcast Channel 30/AT&T CH. 99 in Marin County.
It can also be viewed anywhere from the CMCM web site at www.cmcm.org.
Ted Cochran made this film when he first visited Pitcairn Island in the early 1980’s. He produced it and it won a CINE Golden Eagle Award “For Excellence” in 1984. It was shown for the first time locally in the international Mill Valley Film Festival that year.
Although he was invited to make a documentary of an English expedition organized by Glenn Christian to solve the mystery of Fletcher Christian’s death, Ted found that the descendants still living on Pitcairn were the real story. His affection for them was deep. He made three more trips to Pitcairn in his life, two with his wife Alice, as a lecturer aboard a cruise ship. Ted’s legacy lives in this film.
This film has never been made available on the web in order for it to be a DVD the people of Pitcairn can sell to visitors. This helps them support themselves while living on one of the most remote inhabited islands in the world.
There will be a Zoom party and discussion following the airing beginning at 9 a.m. If you wish to join, email Alice at Alice@AliceCochran.com.
