Marin Museum of Contemporary Art (MarinMOCA) has announced Jodi Roberts will become new Executive Director starting on May 1. Roberts boasts more than a decade of experience in the regional and national art world’s, most recently as Co-Founder and Managing Director of Art + Climate Action. She previously served as Director of Exhibitions at Adrian Rosenfeld Gallery in San Francisco, and she was the Robert M. and Ruth L. Halperin Curator for Modern and Contemporary Art at Stanford University Cantor Arts Center. Before moving to the Bay Area, Roberts worked at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, among other arts organizations.

Expressing her enthusiasm for MarinMOCA, Roberts states “smaller, community-focused museums are remarkable spaces for advancing conversations about the rapidly changing world around us. Exhibitions, events, and educational programs at  MarinMOCA should pique visitors’ curiosity about the role artists play in shaping our region’s future.”

“Roberts comes to us with impressive educational credentials as well as a distinguished professional background centered in curatorial practice, cultural enrichment, and arts administration,” MarinMOCA Board President Daniel Daniloff says. “Roberts is ideally suited, both professionally and personally, to foster the rich legacy of MarinMOCA and to lead it in its continued development as an important regional museum and invaluable resource for the community at large.”

MarinMOCA features dynamic contemporary art exhibitions, as well as art enrichment programs for local elementary students, hosts more than 200 adult art classes annually, and offers professional development opportunities for more than 150 local artist members. The museum runs a resident artist program, free Family Days, Open Studio events for the public and a museum store.

“As a Marin County resident, I’ve been thrilled to watch MarinMOCA’s exhibitions and public programs evolve over the past few years,” notes Roberts. “I’m excited to bring new artists and projects to this space and to help make the museum a crucial hub within the Bay Area’s dynamic cultural ecosystem.”

Roberts received her B.A. from New York University and her Ph.D. in the History of Art and Architecture from NYU’s Institute of Fine Arts.

The Board and staff of MarinMOCA also wish to thank outgoing Executive Director Amy Owen for her two years of service. Owen was fundamental in transforming MarinMOCA into a nationally recognized regional museum, presenting professionally curated exhibitions featuring Bay Area artists. According to former Board President Robin Eber, “Owen was a bright burst of energy for MarinMOCA. Her tenure here guarantees our place in the future as a museum that represents our diverse community and the artists that thrive in it.”
