On Monday, Jan. 11, just before noon, Sausalito Police Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Easterby Street for the report of a gunshot being heard. Multiple reporting parties stated that they heard one gun shot and could also hear yelling coming from that same area. Dispatch notified officers that a reporting party stated they heard “get in the car” from a male’s voice.
Officers rolled to the area. Upon arrival Corporal Brian Mather observed a vehicle heading east on Easterby at a high rate of speed. Corporal Mather conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, a Ford sedan, and determined that the three occupants were involved in the disturbance on Easterby Street. All three suspects were detained for further investigation.
The three suspects were identified as Partner Hooten (a 46-year-old male out of Turlock), David Wasylina (a 59-year-old male out of Turlock and father of the victim) and Zackary Wasylina (a 34-year-old male out of Turlock and brother of the victim). All three suspects were known to the victim. There is no outstanding threat to the public.
In the course of the investigation, it was determined that the three suspects had attempted to kidnap a female from her residence. Zackary Wasylina contacted the victim at her front door and asked her to come out to talk to David Wasylina.
The victim exited her residence upon request and was then confronted by Hooten, her ex-boyfriend. Hooten held the victim against her will, forcefully moved her approximately 100 feet towards their vehicle and attempted to force her into the vehicle.
During the struggle Hooten waved a firearm in the air stating that he was going to kill himself and the victim. Another male resident in the same residence heard the commotion. That male resident came to the front of the house, saw the victim being forced into the vehicle and fired a round into the ground with a handgun in an attempt to stop the potential kidnapping.
The gunshot caused Hooten to release the victim. All three suspects then fled the scene in the suspect vehicle.
