Artist and filmmaker Lynn Hershman Leeson will receive the Mind the Gap Award for her groundbreaking work and versatile career. Hershman Leeson, whose association with MVFF dates back to her pioneering video art in the 1980s, will present her highly anticipated Cyborgian Rhapsody series in its entirety for the first time at the 2023 festival. Lynn Hershman Leeson will be joining us for an onstage conversation and presentation of the MVFF Mind the Gap Award, an award that honors creatives, leaders, and innovators whose work has helped close the gender gap in the film industry.The program will feature a screening of the complete Cyborgian Rhapsody series, consisting of four captivating short films: Seduction of a Cyborg (1994), Shadow Stalker (2018), Logic Paralyzes the Heart (2022), and the premiere of the final installment Cybrogian Rhapsody—Immortality (2023), written and performed by a Cyborg – GPAT-3 Chatbot.The full MVFF program will be announced on Friday, Sept. 8. Festival tickets go on sale on Sept.12. Over the last five decades, artist and filmmaker Lynn Hershman Leeson has been internationally acclaimed for her art and films. Cited as one of the most influential media artists, Hershman Leeson is widely recognized for her innovative work investigating issues that are now recognized as key to the workings of society: the relationship between humans and technology, identity, surveillance, and the use of media as a tool of empowerment against censorship and political repression.
