Dear editor,
They’re back! The day started with blaring car radios, racing engines, slamming doors and student shouts. Crap! The kids are back! The only thing I didn’t miss during quarantine was the Novato High drivers polluting my street with noise, trash, and high speeds. But now they’re back as obnoxious as ever.
And we basically have no recourse to correct their behavior. I have witnessed so many near crashes and it’s all a joke. On trash day, kids move your still full cans so they can have a closer parking space. They can’t parallel park to save their lives but won’t slow down for 2 cars to pass each other between the sloppy parking of their peers. Forget backing out of your driveway when the kids are driving around. Can’t be done.
And when they come back from lunch and throw their trash in our yards? One year a kid left a whole turkey on the sidewalk when they came back from Thanksgiving break. I kid you not.
It would be nice if the students were a little more respectful of their neighbors but I fear there will be no improvement of their behavior. This has been going on for years. I know it’s too much to ask for some police presence especially around the lunch hour when the insanity is the most egregious. There simply aren’t enough cops taking care of other issues. But maybe the school resource officers? I don’t know the solution. I just wish we could shut down the Washington Street racetrack before someone really gets hurt. I miss my peaceful front yard.
