Letters: It’s not a homeless ‘pen’ it’s an ‘enclosure’

November 16, 2021 by Marin Leave a Comment

Dear editor,

I have read a few articles in the Novato Advance where the Lee Gerner Park encampment for the homeless is called the homeless “pen”. Pen used for humans appears very degrading as if they are animals or criminals. It’s offensive language and unprofessional in my opinion. Why is this paper using such language?

(Editor’s note: Thanks for the observation. We’ll try to use the word “enclosure” from here on out.)
