Teresa Webb
1948 – 2023
Teresa Webb died peacefully at Kaiser Hospital in San Rafael, CA, on March 25, 2023, at the age of 74.
She is survived by her children Emma, Clifford “Sonny” (Sarah Vickers-Webb), and Andrew “Andy” (Katherine Dilks-Webb); her sisters Heather McBride, Celeste “Sally” Chapman, Nora Chapman, and Tamara “Tammy” Davis; and her grandchildren Cole, Jack, Teddy, and Cordelia. She is preceded in death by her loving husband W. Richard “Rick” Webb (2022), to whom she was married for 52 years.
Teresa was born on May 12, 1948, in Seattle, WA, to Teresa “Terry” and Edward “Ed” Chapman, a carpenter/contractor. Her family moved frequently in search of work, traveling down the West Coast and staying in Eureka and Hopland with her sisters Heather and Tammy before settling in Cloverdale, CA, where her sisters Sally and Nora were born. After moving to Whittier, CA for some time, the family settled in Novato in 1963.
Teresa graduated from high school in 1965 at Novato High School and graduated from UC Berkeley in 1969. She met her husband Rick on a city bus commuting from SF to Novato and married at the San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo on September 12, 1970. After giving birth to her daughter Emma, she graduated from Davis with a Masters in Child Development. She and Rick returned to Novato, where they raised Emma and their two sons, Sonny and Andy.
Her sisters remember Teresa as having an extraordinary imagination and recall magical afternoons searching for fairies and UFOs. While moving frequently was difficult, Teresa seized the opportunity for self-exploration and reinvention, trying out new names at different schools. As she moved towards adulthood in the 1960s, Teresa took an interest in politics and experimented with fashion, even donning the “mod” style “paper dress” and was interested in politics.
Teresa was passionate about her relationships and was fascinated by others. She enjoyed talking with and learning about people, and they enjoyed her. A storyteller and writer, Teresa loved listening to others’ stories as much as telling her own. Teresa cared deeply for others and generously gave her time and energy to help friends, family, and even acquaintances. She was a loving and supportive presence in her family’s life and will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to National Pyre Rescue or Save the Children. The family would like to thank Kaiser Permanente San Rafael Medical Center for their efforts and care.
