Vivian Saavedra
1939-2022
Vivian Saavedra passed away peacefully May 18, 2022 with family by her side. She was 83.
Vivian was born in San Francisco and grew up attending schools in both Sweden and San Francisco. She graduated from San Jose State University and became a well loved elementary school teacher. She loved being a teacher and taught for close to 50 years in the Novato Unified School District. Most of those years were at San Ramon Elementary School. The only thing she loved more than teaching was her family. Large family gatherings for the holidays were her favorite. She enjoyed spending time with her six grandchildren and often took them on the same field trips she took her students on. Family vacations were filled with activities and excursions because she always did her research ahead of time to make sure her grandchildren didn’t miss out on anything.
Vivian loved to travel and enjoyed a good glass of wine. She was quite proud of her Swedish heritage too.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years Rolando Saavedra, son Jeff Saavedra (Cindy) daughter Karin Alvernaz (Alan) grandchildren Cody Alvernaz, Austin Alvernaz(Dakota), Chase Alvernaz, Elena Saavedra, Matthew Saavedra, Jacob Saavedra, sister Janet Hayward, nephews Bob and Tom Aaserude and niece Jessica Haro.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister and brother in law Lorraine and Jerry Aaserude.
There will be a celebration of Vivian’s life Aug. 28, 2022 at 1 p.m. in The Key Room, 1385 N. Hamilton Pkwy, in Novato.
