The ballots keep on coming in to the Marin County Elections Department for the June primary election. So far voter turnout this year appears light. The election won’t be certified until July.

In what is shaping up to be a low turnout at the polls in Marin County, Registrar of Voters Lynda Roberts said her department is still days away from getting all the Primary election ballots counted.
On election night (June 7), about 32,000 votes were counted. But by the end of the week about double that amount remained uncounted. See a picture of the uncounted votes on page 2A.
The election won’t be ratified until July 19. One race was clear from the first day. Novato Mayor Eric Lucan posted a sizable enough lead in the initial counting to earn him a victory to the District 5 seat on the Marin County Board of Supervisors.
Roberts said it was too early to make a prediction on turnout. Back-of-the-napkin math by Marinscope indicated a low turnout of registered voters with 60 percent being the over and under number.
More reporting on the election will come in future editions for this Marinscope newspaper.
“The team is doing a great job sorting, verifying signatures, and removing ballots from envelopes,” Roberts said, “and we’ll have many more ballots to count next week.”
