At 4 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 26), Novato Police Department responded to a hold up alarm at Umpqua Bank in Novato.
Within minutes, patrol officers saturated the surrounding area of the bank along with officers from the investigations division and members of the Novato Response Team.
Information was gathered that the bank had just been robbed by a man with facial tattoos.
The direction the subject fled, and his description was disseminated to units responding. Within minutes, a subject matching the description was seen seated in a nearby business.
Officers surrounded the business and began giving the man commands. He complied with commands and was taken into custody without further incident.
He was identified as 62-year-old David Baty of San Luis Obispo. Police said that Baty was in possession of items that linked him to the robbery at the bank. Baty, who was on CDC Parole, was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail for 211 PC -Robbery and 3056 PC – Parole violation.
The Novato police thanked the community members that provided information that lead to the immediate identification and arrest of Baty. The department also praised officers and investigators for their quick action to safely take Baty into custody to resolve this incident.
