Fatality: On Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023, at approximately 7:26 a.m., California Highway Patrol (CHP) Marin Area officers received a call of a traffic collision at 44 Bonnie Banks way at Point San Pedro Road, involving a solo vehicle into a residential swimming pool.   The preliminary investigation shows a 2019 Tesla was traveling westbound on Point San Pedro Road, east of Bayview Drive. For reasons still under investigation, the female driver – identified as Dolores Elizabeth Heeb, 74, of San Rafael – allowed the Tesla to veer towards the right. The Tesla crossed Bayview Drive and the front of the vehicle collided with a fence belonging to the residence at 44 Bonnie Banks Way. The Tesla continued into the backyard and went into an in ground swimming pool. The front of the Tesla collided with the swimming pool wall and came to a rest. The driver succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. The investigation of this collision is ongoing.

On Sunday, Jan. 22, at approximately 10:46 a.m. a lifeless body was discovered within storm debris of the Corte Madera Creek waters near a building fronting 1251 S. Eliseo Drive, in Greenbrae. A passing rower / crew member traversing the area made the initial discovery and reported her findings to 9-1-1.  First Responders were immediately dispatched to the area and located the remains in the waterway.  The subject was pulled to a dock at the base of the Bon Air Bridge where death was pronounced without any resuscitative aid provided as physiologic signs of death were noted.  Preliminary investigation suggests the subject was exposed to the elements and submerged for a prolonged time period.  No overt signs of foul play were noted.

NOVATO

School Violence: The Novato Police Department is working closely with the Novato Unified School District regarding a concerning rumor that has been circulating among the San Marin High School community. During class last week, a student made a comment to their peers about a school shooting, which was quickly reported to the school administration. After a thorough investigation, the incident was determined to NOT be a credible threat. NPD officers are monitoring school campuses in response to recent events to put our community at ease.

Our School Resource team has worked hard to build relationships with the campus community, so we’re better connected to learn about threats before it’s too late. We’re grateful for the proactive effort between the Novato Unified School District and our community. As a reminder, our department is fully committed to protecting our students, faculty, and staff. This incident highlights the importance of reporting suspicious circumstances to prevent tragic situations from occurring by early intervention. We encourage students and community members to report concerning behavior immediately to the police department by calling 415-897-4361 or 415-897-1124. Additional concerns regarding this incident can be reported directly to Jan Andrews at Jandrews@nusd.org or by calling the school at 415-798-5156.
