August 28, 2022 by Marin Leave a Comment

Novato: This is the scene on Aug. 19 following a report of a kid who was robbed of his backpack at knifepoint. See more in the Novato section of Marinscope’s Cop Log.

Drug Stuff: City workers found drug paraphernalia in an unusual place – a Mill Valley police car that was being decommissioned. An investigation continues.

Poopy Man: A homeless man took a dump near the baseball field on Hamilton Drive while kids were playing. He did it in the wild even though there was a porta-potty right there. Police talked to Poopy Man and gave him a bus ticket out of town.

Welfare Check: Police were called to Buena Vista Avenue on Aug. 16 to examine a teen-age boy reportedly yelling and rocking back and forth on the ground. Service provided.

Theft: An employee admitted stealing $2,400 in merchandise and cash from a Blithedale store. The juvenile employee was given the harshest possible treatment – he was cited and released to his mother.

Homeless Golfer: A homeless man with a golf club was reported 15-feet up in a tree. He was using the club to hack at the vegetation. Service provided.

Knifepoint Robbery: On Friday, Aug. 19, Novato Police Officers responded to the area of Leese Lane at Jeffrey Court at about 10 p.m. A report of a robbery at knife point had been made. The victim was walking on Leese Lane when he saw three male teens hiding at a nearby residence. The suspects walked up to the victim, grabbed his shirt, while one was holding a knife, and took the backpack from him.

The suspects wore hoodies and rode off on electric scooters. The victim’s school backpack contained a school laptop and various personal items. One of the officers located three teens nearby matching the description of the suspects. After speaking with them, two of the boys were detained. The third one attempted to ride away from the officer on his scooter entering Pioneer Park, where he unintentionally arrived at another officer’s location prior to being detained.

Investigation determined that all three suspects conspired to rob the victim. One physically committed the robbery at knife point, while the other two teens reportedly stood by and watched. The backpack containing the laptop was recovered in the area and returned, while the knife was booked as evidence. The victim was not injured during the incident.

The identities of the juveniles will not be released due to their age. The individual who committed the robbery was brought to Juvenile Hall on charges of robbery and conspiracy. The other two were cited for Conspiracy, Accessory to Robbery and Resisting a Peace Officer.

Burglary: On Aug. 19, at 6:30 p.m., Novato Police Officers responded to the report of a burglary in progress at a commercial building in the 100 block of Roblar Drive. The caller reported that a man was observed hopping a fence and stealing items from storage buildings on the property. The man was still in the area, hiding nearby in the bushes. Responding officers arrived, set a perimeter around the property, and conducted an extensive search of the area. Officers detained Allen David Morgan, 48, near the end of Pamaron Way.

During their investigation, officers discovered that a second business on Commercial Boulevard was also burglarized. Morgan was found to be in possession of property that was stolen from storage units on Pamaron Way and the business on Commercial Boulevard. Morgan was arrested and booked at the Marin County Jail for burglary and possession of stolen property.

Stolen Car: On Aug. 19 at about 11 p.m., southern Marin Deputies attempted a traffic stop on a tan Chevrolet Tahoe. After a brief pursuit on southbound 101 the Tahoe performed a U-turn and drove the wrong way on the highway. The occupant of the Tahoe fled on foot into the hillside. With assistance from the California Highway Patrol’s K-9 unit and air support the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. During their investigation Deputies learned the Tahoe had been reported stolen out of San Leandro. Multiple tools consistent with catalytic converter thefts and burglary were located with the vehicle. The suspect was arrested for felony evasion, possession of a stolen vehicle, and possession of burglary tools and provided with a free ride to the Marin County Jail.
