Marin 911: Hey, lady, you drove off from the car wash in my car!

March 6, 2023 by Marin 1 Comment

Yes, it snowed in Marin. Here’s proof. A dusting of snow on Mount Tam, shot with a sheriff’s vehicle in front.
With a combined 45 years in Law Enforcement, the Marin County Sheriff’s Department bid farewell to Deputies Vanderlind and Calabrese, above.  Thank you for your service to the citizens of Marin County.
A tree fell into the roadway in the 200 block of Villa Avenue in San Rafael on Feb. 27. It came down as a result of the winter weather. The road was closed to remove the tree.

MILL VALLEY

Wrong Car: Two very similar BMW sedans were ready to go at a local car wash. A woman jumped in one car, tipped the attendant, and drove away. Unfortunately, it was the wrong BMW and didn’t realize it for some time. The lady who accidentally took the wrong BMW did not return right away, so police had to go looking for her to set things straight.

Social Host: A loud party with a bunch of teens was reported on Feb. 25 at Sheridan Court. Police responded and used the daughter’s cell phone to call mom and dad, but neither answered. Party dispersed and a social host citation to be issued.

Welcome: Michelle Washington, above, is Mill Valley’s new Parking Enforcement Officer. Welcome aboard.

Upset Neighbor: On Edgewood Avenue a home is being built and worker cars are parked all over the place. A concerned neighbor called the cops and said police need to ticket the cars as they pose a road hazard. Police checked it out and found all the worker cars properly and safely parked. No merit to call.

Tire Damage: Tire marks were seen on the baseball field on Lomita Drive. Police investigated.

Ring: A resident on Shelley Drive caught someone on her doorbell camera shooting a picture of the license plate on her parked car. Video sent to police.

Archery: A person was reported practicing archery behind a store on Miller Avenue. Safety concerns were expressed. Police checked it out and determined safety precautions were followed. No merit to any crime.

Campaign Signs: Police removed campaign signs from city property on Throckmorton and campaign notified.

Burglary: Thieves broke into a work truck on Locust Avenue and stole about $5,000 worth of tools. This is the third time the vehicle has been broken into. A tracking device in one of the work bags is pinging from Oakland. Police in Mill Valley and Oakland are working the case.

Homeless: A hobo camped out on the second floor of a building on Miller Avenue, preventing one of the tenants from getting into her office. The person moved along voluntarily.

SAN RAFAEL

Convicted: On Feb. 24, Miguel Jimenez Alejandre was convicted of first-degree murder in Marin County Superior Court for killing his work supervisor. On May 12, 2021, the San Rafael Police Department received a phone call from a landscaping company in Concord, CA, reporting one of their employees, David Nunez Sanchez, failed to come home after working on a job in San Rafael on May 11, 2021. SRPD Officers responded to the area of North Avenue, which was the last known job site where Sanchez had been working.  SRPD Officers and an employee had located Sanchez’s work truck at the scene.  Officers began to search the surrounding area for Nunez Sanchez.  The search resulted in locating Nunez Sanchez, who was dead buried under brush and branches. SRPD Detectives went to Concord to interview the three employees who were at the job site on May 11, 2021.  The detectives learned that Nunez Sanchez was the supervisor of the work crew, and he drove a separate vehicle to the job site apart from the three employees.  All three employees worked with Nunez Sanchez that morning, but when they finished the job, they all told Detectives that when they left the job site, they saw Nunez Sanchez’s work truck still at the San Rafael job site.  They knew he was supposed to be in Oakland at another job but assumed he was still working the San Rafael job site despite not seeing him when they left.

One of the employees, Miguel Jimenez Alejandre, a 33-year-old Baypoint resident, was questioned at length regarding his interaction with Nunez Sanchez that morning.  After an extensive interview, Alejandre confessed to the detectives that he killed Nunez Sanchez. After several weeks of court testimony in front of a Marin County Superior Court jury, Alejandre was found guilty of first-degree murder.

SAUSALITO

Big Camper: A citizen reported a “huge camper van” in the parking lot for three hours and the caller feared the inhabitants were intending to spend the night. Police later checked on the call and found the vehicle gone.

Bad Guest: A man at a hotel on El Portal Street made “noises all night” disturbing all those around him. The man was asked to leave, but did not do so until police arrived.

Vagrant: A man slept rough near the office door at a building on Bridgeway. He moved along when asked.

On The Boardwalk: An odd fellow fished off the boardwalk in a place where no fishing is allowed. He talked loudly on the phone and was seen screwing things into the boardwalk and – oh, my gawd! – he smoked tobacco. Police called. The odd fellow voluntarily moved along.

Domestic Violence: Police responded to a domestic dispute on Woodward Avenue. Both parties had “two completely different stories and neither party wanted anything done.” Parties separated. Case documented.

Smash ‘n Grab: A car was broken into in a Bridgeway parking lot. Luggage taken.

Belligerent: A vagrant refused to leave a building on Bridgeway, saying that he had a right to sleep anywhere he damn well wanted to sleep. Police called. Man left before police arrived.

Super Wasted: A woman on Bon Air Road presented herself as being drunk as a skunk, telling people that she was “super wasted” and wanted to go to jail. Police arrived and, predictably, took her to jail.
